A NOTE FROM OUR FOUNDER
I have always been a student of beauty, curiosity and the art of seeing.
I have always been deeply sensitive to my surroundings, drawn to the way a space comes together, how colours speak to one another, how a particular object can change the feeling of a room. I was forever designing, collecting, painting and finding ways to make the things around me feel a little more like my own. I didn’t know it then, but I was learning to curate a world around myself, one that spoke to the artist in me.
My years at NIFT gave this instinct a language. Design & photography taught me to look more closely, to understand the thought behind a form, the intention in a detail, and the many ways art and objects can inhabit our lives.
The human brain is wired to seek out patterns, recognise beauty and find a sense of order in the world around us. From the architecture of a building to the curve of an object, to the interplay of shapes and materials, we are continually drawn to forms that please the eye.
In a world that grows increasingly concrete, uniform and hurried, we wanted to make space for the things that ask us to slow down and look again. Through Zukuro, we bring together objects that speak through their form, their detail, their peculiarities. The same intention is reflected in the visual language & vocabulary we are trying to curate, to bring back art & beauty into our everyday.
